After dozing off in the darkness to the sounds of frogs and silence, I awake to clear bright skies beaming in through the surrounding windows of Leigh’s dad’s camper van. Next to her sharing kisses, snores, and snugs. She looks like a literal angel in the light and eyes blue as ocean and sky. Sparks of gold and greens as they deepen. Stepping out on the hills of Cedar Hills reminding me of the father/daughter and church camping trips I deeply enjoyed as a kid. I inquired some more with Leigh’s dad about life on the road. ”Average $30 a day for a large secluded lot +water + electric & on site facilities.” When saying goodbye I tell him I’m not sure what fellow travelers say to one another … “Next time.” , I say. In not immediate enough retrospect I ought to have 100% said “Live long and prosper! “
I do not like goodbyes. Lot of feelings and emotions to process so I get full on a big lunch at Dickey’s BBQ. Got the 2 meats platter : Chicken + Sausage, mac & cheese, fried okra and white bread. Also a blonde brownie that was looking at me when I paid up. Now sitting at my Gate D37 18 minutes before boarding a 30minute delayed flight at the DFW airport. I’m recalling the 2 doops I dropped in the woods of Cedar Hills might have to again before boarding? Hope not, definitely did not need to order this latte. (Update: no alarm was needed)
Plane preparing to land 7:55pm Watched the movie Swift as Horses then catch a nap while the plane circles around before it can land. The movie was good, gay & relatable. Very cool Mike is scooping me at the airport tonight in his new big bright red truck . We are both looking forward to me being HOME.
And news that Zohran Mamdani has become mayor of NYC hits like a sweet red cherry tomato on top.
